Treatment of cervical osteochondrosis with folk remedies can be used as an adjunct to or after completion of the main therapy, in the stable remission phase.
Homemade tinctures and rubs work well for discomfort and not too much pain, and relieve morning stiffness. They have mild analgesic, anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effects.
General rules
In order for the effect of traditional medicine to be as effective as possible, it is better to agree on prescriptions with your doctor in advance. This is a guarantee of the safety and adequacy of home methods. In addition, even seemingly harmless herbal infusions and compresses can distort the effects of medications and increase the risk of side effects.
Ingredients of relatively high toxicity should be used with special care - such as kerosene and unknown plants and herbs whose names are not found in medical manuals.
Homemade ointments and body lotions are only effective for mild to moderate pain. They will help relieve pain caused by weather changes, high physical exertion, or hypothermia. However, conventional treatment methods are unable to repair damaged vertebrae and intervertebral discs.
Typical symptoms: How to recognize chondrosis
Osteochondrosis of the cervical spine is accompanied by symptoms that are difficult to miss. Even in the early stages, it can manifest as:
- discomfort and pain in the neck, back of the head, arms and shoulder girdle. The exact location and intensity of the pain depends on the location of the lesion;
- decreased sensitivity and numbness, which is more common in the hands, especially the hands;
- Decreased muscle strength and tone.
In addition to the above, symptoms of autonomic disorders may occur - increased sweating, redness or pallor of the skin, muscle swelling and chest pain. The latter are often mistaken for heart problems, so many patients seek help from a cardiologist first.
If the vertebral artery is compressed, headache and dizziness, noise or tinnitus, sore throat and difficulty swallowing may occur. In rare cases, nausea and vomiting are possible.
How to handle
Various ointments, rubs, compresses, body lotions, and oral infusions and decoctions are used to treat home osteochondrosis. Massages and exercise help to increase the effectiveness of the therapy.
It is recommended that you take a tolerance test before starting treatment, especially if you are prone to allergic reactions. A quantity of peas is applied to the elbow or wrist. If after one hour there are no signs of redness, itching or other allergies, the procedure can be performed safely.
For oral administration - decoctions or infusions - half a teaspoon should be taken first. Therapy is continued in the absence of symptoms such as nausea, heartburn, bloating, headache, or high blood pressure.
